 Kathy Merlock Jackson is Batten Professor and coordinator of communications at Virginia Wesleyan College, where she teaches courses in media studies. Her main areas of research are children's media and culture and animation. She also edits The Journal of American Culture and writes a monthly column on television for Portfolio Weekly, a local lifestyle magazine.

 Ray Merlock is a professor of mass communications at the University of South Carolina Upstate, where he teaches media history, theory, and production courses and coordinates internships. He has served as a weekly television, radio, and newspaper reviewer rating current film releases. He currently serves on the advisory board of The Journal of American Culture.
