Her main areas of research are children's media and culture and animation. She also edits The Journal of American Culture and writes a monthly column on television for Portfolio Weekly, a local lifestyle magazine. Ray Merlock is a professor of mass communications at the University of South Carolina Upstate, where he teaches media history, theory, and production courses and coordinates internships. He has served as a weekly television, radio, and newspaper reviewer rating current film releases. He currently serves on the advisory board of The Journal of American Culture.
