Abstract | Full Text: PDF (Size: 17K) | Related Articles | Citation Tracking Fetal Demise in a Migraine Patient on Propranolol Copyright © 1983 American Headache Society (formerly the American Association for the Study of Headache) ABSTRACTSYNOPSIS The safety of propranolol therapy early in pregnancy is not known. A case is reported in which fatal demise occurred at 12 weeks and was related to propranolol use for migraine headaches. Propranolol has been associated with reduced umbilical blood flow in animals; this effect may be augmented and cause severe fatal ischemia in patients with the vasomotor instability of migraine.
